Monster mash! Halloween arrived at MVHS with delicious caramel apples, a spooky haunted house, music, and fun activities on October 25.
MVHS Choir and ASB sponsored their third annual Monster Mash and it was bigger than ever. This event took place at the north side of the campus at 3:00pm and ended at 6:45pm, right before the homecoming game. “Monster Mash is a fall festival, fun for anyone of any age.”said Nancy Ludwig, Visual and Performing Arts Department. The monster mash was tied in with this year’s homecoming theme, Hallow Ball, and had many more activities and food than recent years like a Dunking Booth, ring toss, a photo booth, and a Gross tasting game. It was also encouraged to wear your costume to participate in the costume contest. Tickets for food and activities were available at the entrance and prices for activities ranged to $1 - $5. At least 15 clubs and sports were invited to participate in Monster Mash. It’s beneficiary to clubs and sports to fundraise for personal purposes, field trips, or for the end of the year banquet. Pacific Horizons were invited by choir and wanted to sell things that were different like egg rolls, cupcakes, cookies, and brownies. Pacific Horizon provided this food from club members who were willing to make donations. The money they fundraised will be for their end of the year banquet and scholarships to give to seniors. Choir sold bacon wrapped hot dogs, street corn, posole, flavored water, and a Pumpkin Decorating Booth and their scariest haunted house with Drama club. TPA had a face-painting booth, which people of all ages seemed to like. FHA Hero decided to make caramel apples instead of funnel cakes this year because they wanted to try something new and it matched with the monster mash theme. They also sold Hamburgers, Tater Tots, created an Obstacle Course and a Bean Bag Toss to fundraise for their state competitions in February and April to pay for their entry fee and supply. “Monster Mash is a fun event, it promotes school spirit and brings people together.” said Ludwig, “My hope for the next few years, continues to grow and to become a tradition everyone looks forward to.” Cynthia Barajas |
